Could a layer 3 switch replace a router and what the best use for l3 switch?

Thanks

Yes it could. There is a whole suite of L3 Swtiches, 3750s, 3560s then you have the chassis switches 4500 and 6500.

The only thing about using a Router is that it has the capability of a Serial port to connect to the providor but increasingly they ware presenting ethernet.

Yes, it's possible. In some cases, desirable. Good luck, I hope it works for you.

make sure it has the capability for NAT if you are planning to use it as an edge router..
I have a 3550 which is technically an L3 but it wont do NAT ..
so check the feature lists...

but yeah , what the other guys said, yes.

We must go always forward, not backward
always up, not down and always twirling twirling towards infinity.

It can, but let a router route and a switch switch. Routers have all the different images and can have MUCH better IOS firewalls built in.
