Is it true that if I add about 200 email address to the global contact list in Exchange Server that I will have to purchase a Microsoft CAL for each of these entries.

These people will NOT have traditional mailboxes on out Exchange system.

We only want their names available for the TO box when someone is sending an e-mail.

No, this is not true. The GAL can contain outside contacts without a CAL for each. The key letter of a CAL is the A - as I understand your question, these are just contacts & will not be Accessing the Exchange server in any way.

Thanks for your reply Smah. Yes, you are correct. These are just contacts and they will not be accessing the Exchange server in any way.

Can you tell me how to enter these names and e-mail addresses so we do not have to use a Microsoft CAL. What do you mean about the key letter of the CAL being the A.

(I should admit that I am management and do not know the exact technical steps to make the entry - hope you'll still answer me, anyhow :) )

This should help:
how to add "external" e-mail contact to global address list thread955-1209689

CAL stands for Client Access License. So for the sake of this discussion the "A" is what's important; your external contacts will not be Accessing the Exchange server at all, therefore no license is required for them.

Just a final note to thank you for this info. Everything you said worked perfectly. I appreciate your help.
