Has anyone made analysis or calculations regarding the cost of buliding apps. in Native Notes as opposed to building web-enabled apps on Domino.

My view on this is that it is significantly cheaper to build and maintain Native apps., and that there is a steep cost difference curve as you start to add more functionality.

As a long-time Notes developer, I am currently fighting with web-enabled projects and JavaScript and such. Having a lot of experience in LotusScript and Notes, and not much in JavaScript, I am experiencing great difficulties to make even simple things work.
Obviously, with a highly-trained web developer things would go better, but even so, Domino has wierd ways of interpreting Java through the browser.
In short, I feel pure Notes applications are easier to design and maintain, since Lotus has a much better track record of stability between releases than, say, Netscape.
Yet, there are two things that go against such a conclusion :

1) I do not have a good mastery of Javascript and web-enabled app design
2) The business model is going straight for web clients, and the Notes client is destined to disappear in the medium term

R6 apparently makes life easier for web developers to get their stuff done (proper debugger and design environment). Which is just another step in that direction.

My 2 cents.

Pascal.
