We have a classroom setup where the receptionist calls into a classroom and the phone auto answers. Since the teacher may not be close to the room she'll need to be able to respond. Some are complaining the the mic is muted when this occurs and they have to press the button to be heard. What COS feature needs to be enabled for this to always happen?

System Type?
Software Level?

Assuming 3300 pre-rel 9.0.

The Mic needs to be engaged manually before the call takes place to allow handsfree answerback.

With Rel 9.0 UR1 there is now a COS option to allow HF answerback regardless of the Mic status.

I'm not as sure of the way a 200 works with Auto-Answer enabled.

I suspect it is the same as the 3300 where it would require the Mic to be "Pre-Engaged" to allow 2-way calling.

This is definitely the case when using Directed Paging as the manual state as below.

This feature allows users to respond handsfree to a directed page. In order to respond handsfree, the user must turn on the set’s microphone in advance. Then, if a directed page is broadcast over the user's set, the set microphone is activated allowing the user to speak handsfree to the calling party.
The called party is alerted to the page by a short tone. Also, depending on the set type, the MICROPHONE key LED will flash or the MUTE key LED will flash rapidly.

The Manual is not as clear with respect to the Auto-Answer feature.

from the docs:
Auto Latch Microphone allows a phone's handsfree microphone to automatically turn on or off when receiving a direct page or an Intercom call.
This feature is available only with a Directed Page or Intercom Call, not a Group Page or All Set Page.
Disable COS Option 683, Key System - Direct Paging Handsfree Answerback, in Form 03, Class of Service Options, to allow paged phones to use this feature.
Not sure what phones are in the classroom but if a family 3 or 4 see below:
To set the handsfree microphone to automatically turn on or off when receiving a page or Intercom call
• Press SUPERKEY.
• Press No until "Auto Latch Mic?" appears.
• Press TurnOn or TurnOff.

Cool Pandabear - Didn't know the 200 could do that.

Thank you Pandabear, I just did a "I could of had a V8" smack upside my head. I do remember setting another phone for this a while back. LOL
