Corrupted View?

I very strange thing has happened to our Lotus Notes environment. Our developer made a change to a view and implemented that change across the company. For some reason, after he made the change, occassional databases become corrupted. By corrupted, I mean that random information in the database is unviewable. I tried running a fixup, compact, and updall, and data continues to get corrupted. We reversed his changes which slowed down the corruption, but it still happens each day. I tried rebuilding the view, but that didn't help.

Now here's the really strange part: certain people within the company have a peculiar problem: when they open mail that has an attachment, if they right mouse click anywhere in the mail, they get the "detach" option--as if they clicked on the attachment itself. If I open the user's mail from my own workstation, I only get the "detach" option if I click on the attachment. I believe these random workstation peculiarities were caused by the view change--and the only way I can fix the workstation is by a complete uninstall/reinstall of Lotus Notes. I tried deleting the cache and the desktop.dsk as well--but it does not solve the problem.

Does anyone have ANY idea what else I can try? This affects a hundred workstations at least!

To start with, you need to discard your current views and start over again.

Load updall -V -C

from the console.

As far as you other issue goes... it sounds like you may have a corrupted template...

What you can do is replace the design with one of the other mail templates, see if that helps, then replace the template with the one on the server and see if it corrupts again. From a client, chose file-> database-> replace

You have both local copies and server copies. Replace a server copy of the database with a server template...

Check to see, did your designer create a database agent that is set to run on a database that the users have installed locally? What about ECL's?

I would start with the top two items first, then work down from there.

I tried your suggestions--no change to our problem. Let me ask you something though. Let's suppose you have very peculiar things happening with a number of workstations in your environment. The only things I know to try are: refresh the design, delete the cache, delete desktop.dsk, and try a control>shift>F9 (not necessarily in that order). I know uninstalling and re-installing Lotus Notes solves the workstation issues. But is there anything else you can think of in the arsenal of refreshing or rebuilding without having to do a complete uninstall and reinstall?

Is this exclusive to user mail files or other applications as well?

For mail files I would run Compact -D to discard all built views. Next I would use the Convert command to replace design on the mail files. You can load this once and it will convert all mail files within your mail folder. See the online help for info on this.

The downside is that mail files will initially open slower as they need to build the views again.

Hope this helps.
