One of the excel files apparently became corrupted and i restored a good one from backup. However, i'm trying to delete the bad copy off the server and it tells me the following:

Cannot Delete "filename.xls". Cannot find the specified file. Make sure you specify the correct path and file name.

What can i do to delete it...

thanks in advance

Use the command line editor (i.e. DOS) to delete the file.

I've used command line and cleared the attributes but it continues to say the file is not found within the command line.

What OS are you running. The only time I have seen this being so persistent is a combination of NT 3.1 and Macs.

Using Windows 98 SE with Novell 4.11 F/P Server

Hmmm. I looked on the MS Knowledge Base and sure enough the only one I found was Q105359, which talks about the file structure as saved by Macs.

I have a shareware tool that deletes files securely. You could try that if you wished. I downloaded the file from:

General comment: The site is excellent for shareware and free utilities.

i've tried eraser and just tried that utitlity....it simply says the file is not found but the reference to it is there. not sure what else to try

ok....problem is excel is infected with pldt macro virus. My AV didn't catch it nor do they say on the site how to remove it (computer associates).

removed pldt.xls from XLSTART and deleted PLDT.XLS within Excel by going to Windows>Unhide in the tool bar.
