Hello all,
This subject may not be helpfull but is to train to good react to a specific problem.
some mounth ago i got a bad experience with corrupted block in a windows 2000 Server Oracle database 8i1.7.0
I made some research and i read that the package dms_repair is helpfull to detect and repair corrupted block.
But now i'd like to test those procedures. But i have no corropted block in my test database.

Does someone know a way to corrupt oracle database blocks without crashing OS?

Hi,

not sure if this will work, but you might randomly change a few bytes in a data file. E.g. an easy exercise in C programming could do it.
The reason for my guess is this: In most cases when I have seen corrupted blocks so far, they seem to have been caused by disk problems, that is, a file could not be written or read properly. And this might be simulated the way I suggested.

And if you try it, please could you post the outcome here?
Just curious.
