Corrupt user account

I have a couple of users whose account has become corrupt. I renamed their old account by adding a 1 on the end and created a new account for them. How i am i then able to transfer their old mailbox linked to their corrupt account to the new account so that i may then delete the corrupt account safely afterwards? i am worried that now i have given full access permissions to the mailbox that by deleting the corrupt account it will aslo delete the mailbox.

Run the cleanup agent from your system manager, then associate the now detached mailbox to the new account.
