Corrupt PDC?

A BDC Exchange Server has died (after applying the MS Cumulative IIS Patch!)
The PDC is the only remaining NT 4.0 Server.

A NT4.0 Workstation, that was able to logon to the Domain, now gives the following Dialog box;
"A domain controller for your domain could not be contacted.
You have been logged on using cached account information."

The Event log generated is;
ID 5719
NETLOGON
No Windows NT Domain Controller is available for domain DOMAIN. (This event is expected and can be ignored when booting with the 'No Net' Hardware Profile.) The following error occurred:
There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request.

I have tried renaming the NT Workstation after leaving the domain, and joining it again. A new Computer account is created on the PDC Server and I get the reassuring "Welcome to the DOMAIN domain" dialog box.
But when I go to logon, even though the DOMAIN appears in the pop-up domain field the domain controller is still not found.

I have disabled WINS
Added an LMHOSTS entry;

192.168.0.10 PDC #PRE #DOM:DOMAIN

but still no luck.

As I am having to rebuild the BDC Exchange Server and will need to rejoin the domain at some point I would love to solve this!!

Any clues?

is your server attached to a Cisco switch ? I have not failed, I just found 10000 ways that don't work
