Hi All
I did search for key words for the following issue but did not find anything. Apologies if I did miss a similar posting.
I have a new customer with SBS 2003. One of the scsi drives (not in a raid array) picked up a bad sector and it happened to contain the priv1.edb file.
On doing all the esutil procedures I have managed to get most of the mail back. (No the company did not do email backups)
However some mails within the mail boxes come back with the error "can't open this item. The operation failed." The users have accepted that there has been a major problem, and that some mail has been lost, but would like all these corrupt emails to be deleted. If I try delete them I get errors back with access denied messages.
Any body out there with any ideas?
Thanks
Andy

I have seen this kind of problem before. The following is what I did. I don't find any better solution yet.

1. Use exmerge to export all that user's emails
2. completely delete the user's mailbox
3. create a new clean mailbox
4. Import back all emails

The corrupt email items will disappear after these operations.

Richard is right - exmerge will only take good data. You'll lose single instance storage but you will also lose all of the errors.
