Hi, I used the system recovery cd to restore my laptop back to factory settings. Now on bootup it blue screens and says the hard disk has become corrupt. The same happens when i try to boot in safe mode...Any ideas?

Find the name of the manufacturer, most common are Toshiba and IBM, there's a few others. Go to the maker's web site and download their diagnostic, usually goes on a floppy. Run it to determine the health of the drive. If it is in warranty, note the error code that is returned, if any. You'll need it for service.

I recommend this procedure to rule out any problems with the drive itself, then go to determining if the bootup process is bad or the operating system has problems.
