Good evening all.
I have an odd problem with a data DVD, that to the best I can tell was burned a bit strange. In short, I can see the file system just fine, all the files APPEAR to be there, but most of them will not open (in case of jpegs) or will show gibberish (in case of text files). Now I said "most", not "all". One in about a hundred will open, but it will not be the file it's supposed to be, ie it will have the wrong filename (in the case of images), usually of another file in the same folder. Some text files also seem to be made up of parts of different files, and it all looks to me (I have very little data recovery experience, so correct me if I'm wrong) that the DATA, the actual bytes are all there, likely even in sequence, just that there is some sort of screwup with where individual files begin and end.
Which gives me hope.
I've tried a few CD/DVD recovery programs, but to no avail, all seem to be "recovering" the same things that I can get by just browsing the disk. The latest I've tried is ISOBuster, which seems nice and has a ton of options, the problem is I have no clue what settings to use, or if it's even capable of untangling this mess.
If it can't be done with a tool, I have no problem with sitting there going through raw data, or doing some other manual chore to sort out where what begins and ends if that's what I need to do, but I need someone to point me in the right direction, like I said data recovery isn't really my expertise.
