Corrupt Data Problem

Hi all,

In one of my Access 2000 Multi-user Databases I have noticing an increased amount of corrupted lines of data. It seems as though when a record is entered into a specific table, the data is OK but then sometime after the initial data entry occurs, all the text fields turn into boxes, @ signs, or other special characters and all the date fields change to 12/30/1899.

I've also noticed that when there is corrupt data in that table, the database will not compact. It will begin to compact but then about half way through the process will just close. Once I delete the corrupt lines, the database WILL compact with no problems.

As you can imagine this is quite a big problem for us and I was wondering if anyone had any insight into why this is happening / what I can do to prevent it.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Andy

Could be network related. Since we migrated to Windows 2000, I have been having a lot of front end corruption problems. Especially suspicious since it never happens on my hard drive version--only the network version. But I've been struggling with corrupted indexes prior to that. Here are some possible solutions:

Create a new blank database and import the database into it. Run repair and compact (first line of defense).

Delete the relationships, run repair and compact, and recreate the relationships (courtesy of Microsoft). You'll want to make a backup first.

If you can trace the corruption path--i.e., you know that when your users add records on this form, the database corrupts, then start by deleting the underlying queries and replacing them with new ones. I cleared up most of the index corruption problems I was having simply by replacing my archiving queries.

You can also try to do the same thing with the form as well.

Hopefully something in here will help.
