Am I right in thinking that if I have existing mailboxes on our IPS server e.g. info@..... and I configure POP3 on the SBS 2008 to download emails, I can direct theses emails to a specific SBS user e.g. fred.miles? I.e. I do not have to have the same email username as the SBS username (have not configured them yet on the server).

Thanks for your time.

Correct, you can configue the smtp address to be anything you like though it must be unique within your domain, ie you can't have info@domain.com attached to more than one mailbox unless it is a distrbution list.

If it doesn't leak oil it must be empty!!

happyhacker, since I know you are moving toward going away from the POP accounts, you should know that you can also add a secondary email address to a user.

In Exchange Management Console, view properties of the user mailbox. Choose the Email Addresses tab. There you can click Add and give a user a second account such as "info" or "sales" etc.

Your other option is to create a distribution group and provide it that email address. Then assign group members and any email sent to that address will be forwarded to the group.

I hope that helps.

Mark
