Does anyone know a proper procedure for backing up and restoring the SQL database that Reporting for Contact Centre uses. I been told by SQL people that you need to run an official SQL backup tool rather than just copying and pasting the 'ccrdb' folder.

I have already searched Nortel Reportings documentation and there is no info about correct backup/restore procedures.

I pasted the main concepts below. There is a link at the bottom where you can download the full bulliten.

RCC Backup and Restore
----------------------------------
The RCC historical database is stored on the RCC web host PC within:
x:\mysql\data\CCRDB
Where x is the drive specified in the installation.
How to backup the RCC
--------------------------------
In order to maintain historical statistics and client configurable settings it is recommended you
backup this folder (x:\mysql\data\CCRDB) on a regular basis, using recommended Microsoft &
3rd party backup procedures and utilities.
When to backup the RCC
----------------------------------
PAGE 3 OF 8 TECHNICAL | DOCUMENT ID 2005005645
In the event that a backup is not available, if this directory is lost (for example in the event of a
hard disk failure) the historical data will be permanently lost, so reports will largely be empty
(apart from for the latest call state events retained on the BCM).
It is recommended you ensure you have a recent backup (or take a new backup as necessary) of
the RCC database directory (i.e. x:\mysql\data\CCRDB):
- Prior to applying a voice mail patch or cumulative patch to the BCM.
When a voice mail patch is released, the patch will be packaged to include all
call center related files, which will potentially affect call center operation on the
BCM. As a result, this may in turn affect RCC.
- Prior to upgrading RCC.
An upload of a new version of RCC to the BCM will not affect the operation of RCC itself.
However, when uninstalling an old version of RCC and installing a new version of RCC
on the RCC web host PC, as well as upgrading the RCC application, this may additionally
upgrade the RCC database (located on the RCC web host PC).
On a regular basis as per customer requirement.
The frequency of backup depends on the customer requirements and just how critical
the historical data is to the customer.
- Prior to making any significant changes to the RCC web host PC.
For example,
prior to applying an operating system service pack.
prior to applying a Microsoft hot fix.
prior to installing a new application.
prior to any other significant change to the RCC web host PC.
- Prior to making any significant changes to "mysql".
The "mysql" component in add/remove programs, as well as the "mysql"
directory maintains the RCC database. The installation of a new application
that uses "mysql" could potentially affect the RCC database.
- Whenever you do a BRU on the BCM.
As a precaution, perform an RCC backup whenever you do a BRU on the
BCM. For example, if you restore a BCM from three days prior, you then have
the potential to also restore the RCC, should the need arise.
RCC Restore Note
-------------------------
Providing you have a safe backup, if you do a restore of the RCC database from a
previous version of RCC (for example after an upgrade) you should run the
"ModifyDatabase.bat" file which is in the RunOnce folder of the RCC installation
PAGE 4 OF 8 TECHNICAL | DOCUMENT ID 2005005645
folder. By running this, it will ensure that your backed-up database is upgraded to
the latest version. You should also know that it does not matter if you run the
"ModifyDatabase.bat" file on a current version of the Database; it is safe to run it
even if you are not sure of the version.

Short and simple to back up SQL database. Hope this helps..

- Stop RCCLauncher service.
- Stop the MySQL4 service.
- Use Windows Explorer to copy C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server
4.1\data\CCRDB to
C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server
4.1\data\CCRDB_backup_<date_RCCversion> e.g.
CCRDB_backup_22ndfeb08__24358
- Start MySQL4 service.
- Start RCCLauncher service.
We might for example ask you to zip the contents of
CCRDB_backup_22ndfeb08_24358 to one file and provide it to us, depending
on the problem.
You can call the backup folder whatever you like, however sometimes when
upgrading the version of RCC, the database "structure" is also upgraded
(so the backup may be version of RCC specific). So if I were doing
this, I'd stick to a similar naming standard.
