Correcting History on Resources

I have used the keyword search but am unable to find words that match what must be a common issue.

I have a resource pool and a project that are linked and the pool takes precedence. We thought that a resource at a remote site was working last week on the project, but had been redirected without our knowledge.

The project and pool resource sheet have him assigned to a project task that was five days long. When I go to the pool and put those dates in as unavailable, the pool/project will not release him from the original dates. I think this is because it is now in the past, because I have changed constraints trying to force the unavailability to start on Monday of last week, but the pool jumps it a week and continues to show work on the orignially assigned task. The completion bar has not been activated.

I could rename the resource and use a different spelling and that might work for scheduling, but it would throw off history.

How can I fix this?

I continually checked for possible keywork combinations to hit something on this. I have found some 2005 and 2006 responses that may relate, indicating that there are multiple ways to create the condition where the task won't move easily.

I have tried some of these, but have not identified the culprit. I did create a new task that had the same name as the original but added a '1' to the spelling, then reassigned the task to the new resource and it dropped it off the original. I can probably live with this but I will try to reassign the task back to the original resource and see if I can remove my dummy resource.
