This is a primary Novell environment with at least 10 Windows 2000 servers, but our users log-in to Novell.

We're currently running Norton AntiVirus Comporation Ed. ver7.60 on a Windows NT Server. We're looking to rebuild the server and install Windows 2000 Server and install Norton Enterprise Ed. 8.6.

My concerns are as follow:

1. If I take the server offline; What would happen to the clients?

2. Which files should I backup to maintain my current configuration? Can I save the old config somehow?

3. The Corporation Ed. was in place before I started here. Where should I look to get the current config?

Thanks!

1. If I take the server offline; What would happen to the clients?

Nothing at all. They'll wait patiently for their server to come back online. As long as you give the server the same name and IP address, they won't know the difference when you bring it back up, either. They won't, of course, get virus updates while the server's down, though.

2. Which files should I backup to maintain my current configuration? Can I save the old config somehow?

The absolute easiest way to save the old configuration is to install the Server version on another computer. If your Netware box is running the server version (and it should be) you can use that. The idea is this: put the two servers in the same server group, then make the one that's not going down the primary server. That way, it's the one that keeps the settings. When you rebuild the Windows server, add it back to the server group, and make it the primary server again.

3. The Corporation Ed. was in place before I started here. Where should I look to get the current config?

It's all in the Symantec System Center. The information's all kept in the registry of the server, but the way to get to it is the SSC.

OK,

I have another question. I need to install 2000 server and install Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition ver. 8.1...My manager wants me to build another machine. I know I'm not going to have any of the settings from old NT Server with Symantec Corporate Ed. ver 7.5...

Can I keep v7.5 up and setup a new server with a different ip/computer name?

If I install the client part on this server. Will it interfer with the current server. I'm new to this and the currect config was in place before I started.

Please help if you can...
