Hello to Everyone!
I searched your forums, but found no reference to Intranets, so I am posting this thread here. If this is incorrect, please feel free to direct me to the right place! *LOL* Any time you may give, is greatly appreciated. *S*
My problem:
I do not know what server hardware we utilize at my company, nor am I allowed to have this knowledge (security issues I would assume). I am an Engineering Administrator (glorified gopher 'read secretary'), who was assigned the task of maintaining the company intranet (I have been building web pages for about 7 years now, so I was the most "qualified" *HAHAHA*)
The problem I have been experiencing for the last 1 1/2 years, within our intranet, are files disappearing without intervention of human hands. Folders reappearing after they have been deleted 2 months ago. Files also reappearing after being deleted 4 months ago. Another scenario goes like this; I open a folder to post an updated work instruction, to my surprise that work instruction is gone. If I "BACK" up and re-enter that same folder, it magically appears. (I call it the *TROLL SYNDROM* - imagine little trolls residing within the computer and playing tricks on me *LOL*)
Let me provide a very brief background (and hopefully I won't create further confusion *S*): We house work instructions, Business Plans, System Operating Procedures, Business System Manuals, forms, organizational charts, and the like, on our Intranet. We are QS/TS Certified (automotive)which mandates this infracture. The intranet provides a tool that allows our five facilities (MI, SC, IA and Mexico) to access the same data at any given moment.
My question is this, "What would cause this kind of behavior?"
My IT Support provides this answer when I ask them, "Well, you and Sue are the only ones who go in there." - that's it. Nothing further then the phrase stated above. But they do offer to go to "back-ups" and retreive the lost data - so they are within the scope of their responsibility.
My next question, "Why would an IT Support group provide such answer?" Is it violating some security issue or something (i am being sincere here*S*) by explaining the possibilities of other issues that would createsuch a behavior?
My co-worker and I are not of the mindset to sabbatog (sp) one another's efforts - we are a team who has received minimal training in this venue and have successfully maintained the Operating System to an accuracy that was not present before. We have done our best, which brings me to this forum. We wish to be empowered so that if we are doing something "wrong" we can prevent it.
I patiently await your replies, and thank you for your valuable time.
Pamela
