I have a couple of questions,
Can anyone tell me the main (or any) difference between version 7.x and 8.x
Some time ago we (not me personally) installed corporate edition on our administration net for a test and now we want to roll out this for the enterprise but it seems 8.0 is installed on the server but we have only 7.6 software in the safe.I have no idea how this has happened. We have ordered v8.x enterprise.
If i totally deinstall the corporate edition and then reinstall with new software will I encounter any problems.
Will the present managed workstations see the server directly and that sort of thing.
Any ideas

Thanks

Gary

We are running a SAV 8.1 server and most all of our 500 clients are running 7.60 and 7.61. We do plan on upgrading the clients to 8.1 later this year, but the older clients work fine.

One of the technical differences that I can't explain too well between 7.6 and 8.1 is the way that it installs the Intelligent Update files on the parent server. With 8.1 it does it more effiently with a smaller file. I read this recently on Symantecs site, but can't find the article now.

I would *guess* that your current managed clients would still work fine if you upgraded as long as the parent server name stayed the same, but I'm not sure. You may have to run GRCDrop.exe on the clients again at the very worst.

Hope this helps.

Two of the biggest difference are:

1. 8.X uses less cpu time on the client

2. 8.1 clients recieve a 67KB vs 7.x clients recieving the intelligent updater approx. 7.9MB at this time and growing.

Thus less traffic and less chance of something going wrong. we currently have upgraded all of our Parent servers and are now doing the servers and clients.
