Could someone explain the difference between a CoRes signalling server and a COTS signalling server please?

Thank you.

CoRes Sigserver is a CPPM card that resides in a slot in PBX. with Rls 6.0 above it is a Linux server and will support CPU and SigServer with one card.

COTs is either a IBM or HP server, resides in a data rack ,and supports SigServer. You would then also need a CPU card.

I believe in 7.5 the COTS also supports Call Server. Rumor I heard anyway.

CoRes is very limited in terms of user etc. A standalone sigserver and a stand alone call server in either SA or HA mode is needed if you are going to have more then 5 Super loops.

And btw Coress Callserver + Sigserver is availible in rel7 aswell on either Dell R300 or IBM x3350 cots.

Max 5 Super loops total on any cots setup. Max 800 TDM users in any cots setup etc..
Though some options allows for more Call Per Hours. Where the CPMG128 only handles 8.000 wile the IBM or Dell cots handles 20.000. (Thats with CS+SS+NRS counted in)

Thanks to all who responded.

I find it odd that our vendor has proposed a CoRes sig server for two of our three PBX sites and the third site they proposed a COTS server. They didn't offer a reson why.

I have also heard that CoRes is about half the cost of a COTS server which I guess makes sense because there isn't the external rack mounted server.

Thanks.

Well it totaly depends on what CoRess your buying.
CPMG card wich combines MGC + CPPM on one card is cost effective aswell as using an MGC + Cppm Coress. Though using the CPDC (DualCore) Card as Coress is more expensive but offers more processing power to your system. Comparing a Standalone callserver CPPM with a Cots Sigserver vs a CPDC Coress i have no clue whats preferd. But if your up to expand the company the CPPM + Cots is better for migrating purposes. May i ask how many users etc will be on the system?

And one more thing, are those systems going to play around in the same Security domain? Cus in that case it might explain why a Cots wuld be better for one location. Since it takes some load from being the Primary Security Server.
Putting a SigServer on a Cots that runs the security domain might be a good choice.

On the PBX that will have the COTS server, there are about 80 users. On the other two PBX's there are 160 and 30. We also have a main CS1000E that has been at Rls 6 for a few months - it has about 600 users and the other sites are dependant upon this main site.

With that amount of users there is no reason to not build a simple Coress CPPM/MG SMG System at all the sites. Let them be Backup / member servers and register to the mainsites Security domain and replicate databases from the main site.
:)

@guycable2, yes that is correct. but only the following COTS support Co-Res functionality. The others are called as COTS1 and support only Linux SS role.

- IBM x3350 server (COTS2)
- Dell R300 server (COTS2)
