I have a problem printing from CorelDraw 11. This is any document when I select Print from the File menu or the print icon in the toolbar. The application just freezes and you have to terminate it through CTRL-ALT-DEL. I can however print by going to print preview and selecting the printer icon in the toolbar. I'm running Windows XP and printing to an HP LaserJet 5100tn of Epson Stylus Photo R200. Any help would be GREAT. Thanks.

F8 on Corel launch would be a start, workspace may be corrupted, save first if it has been modified so you can import afterwards

Brushman, thanks for the advice. I tried it and there was no change. I have removed the application and re-installed it and that did not help either. I'm at a loss here. It is very frustrating. Any other input or guidance would be appreciated.

When you un-install sometimes a folder may remain, delete this manually, reboot and then reinstall. Make sure all programmes ESPECIALLY virus software are disabled for the installation. Might be worth delting the printer driver and reinstalling that first.

I agree with Brushman - this sounds like a security issue; one or more other programs has a handle on the print function and isn't allowing Corel access. I have had to reinstall only the printer driver for my HP Deskjet and reset it to the default printer in the Control Panel to fix this problem (Corel 12 with Win XP) - but I always find turning off the anti-virus/firewall is the biggest first step.

Hello Folks,

I have tried everything that was suggested here and I still have the same problem. I'm ready to drop the computer out the window. I need to get a number of items created and printed and it will not print unless I'm in print preview and than I select print from the file menu or click the print icon in the toolbar. Someone please help..........

You're at the troubleshooting stage - I doubt we'll be able to do anything more for you.

1) Is Corel the only program that has this issue? (ie: can you print both from the menu and from the preview in programs like Word, Photoshop, Paint, Notepad, etc?)
- This will tell you if it's a Corel or Windows problem.
- If you can print, the problem is Corel. If you cannot, the problem is Windows.
- If you have semi-crap service from your printers, then the print drivers are likely the issue.

2) Has this been going on since you installed Corel 11, or did it start happening after at some point?
- If it was from the beginning, I'd give up and call Corel first. Or god forbid, go back to an older version or go up to Corel 12.
- If it happened at some point later, use that magical "Windows XP Restore". Take it back to the day you got it if you have to (and if it's important enough).

4) Pick one printer and work with it - using two printers gives too many irrelevant variables and for all you know the printers could be fighting with each other. Take one off for now, completely. Unplug it, uninstall it, forget it was ever hooked up for a while.

3) Uninstall - if feasible - your anti-virus and firewall. Stay offline completely while doing this. Remove them completely and try again.

4) If that doesn't work, uninstall and reinstall Corel while the anti-virus and firewall are removed.

5) Uninstall and reinstall only ONE printer driver before reinstalling anti-virus and firewall.

5) Is the printer connected to any networking devices?
6) Is the printer shared?
7) Is the printer plugged into a front USB port on the computer (these are secondary-input ports; printers tend to work poorly there)?
8) What else is actually running? Go to START>RUN...
- Type in msconfig and in the setup window, go to "startup" on the far right side. Uncheck all the crap. Turn off things like the cute animated thing in the corner, the free thingy that downloads songs, the chat program, and all the other stupid bells and whistles. Retstart the computer.

**This is not a "give me an answer" problem; it's a random thing that has a solution, but it ain't in the Corel spectrum of issues. I fully believe you'll get better advice from a printer forum, or a Win XP forum, or actual Corel tech support.
