Corel WordPerfect 9 Won't Save to A Drive

On a Windows 2K PC, with WP9 and WP8. WP8 saves fine to the A: drive, but WP9 won't see it and won't save to it.
I have tried formatting the disks (does not work) but something I noticed is that WP9 will save to A: if there is a file(s) already saved to it.
I tried the SPs from the Corel website and even patched it with the SAVETOA that has not description on what it does. Everything seems to fail.
Note: this same setup is in a Win98 machine and WP9 works fine. This is the third PC with this problem, all with W2K.

I've had the same problem with WP9 and Win2K - the workaround is to open the A-drive file through Windows Explorer. The workaround on Save is to Save to a C-drive, then use explorer to Copy to A-drive. Problem seems to exist in WP9 Legal edition - haven't had it reported in Standard edition. With WP9 Legal SP4 (a whole new CD from Corel for 9.95) the problem goes away. Recommend the $10 investment!!
