I have imported a color bit map file in corel draw 9. When I click onto 'wireframe' i notice an invisible background that I'd like to remove in order to place the jpg pic on vector art. thanks

Invisible background? Any rastor image you import will have a background unless it taken out and converted to a GIF. It can be taken away in 2 ways depending on how complex the background.
1. Right-click on the image and choose "edit image". This will take you to PhotoPaint where you can try to use the "magic wand" and select the background and delete it. Close PhotoPaint and a prompt will come up asking if you want to save. Click "yes". The dificult part is trying "magic wand" just the background.
2. What I do more often is use the node edit tool in CorelDraw to manipulate the background out of the image. Select ther image and then choose your "node edit" tool. You'll see nodes at the corners of your image. You can now "double-click" on the edge to add nodes and move them in and around the particular part of the image that you want to keep. Yes it is tedious work but usually works fine. Also once you have the image adjusted the way you want you can then go to "Bitmaps" and choose "Crop bitmap".
