O.K. I'm sure this is easier than I'm making it. I need to type a list of names to eventually send to a cutter. I need the names X" tall by max X" long. I want to just sit and type the names and have them be X" tall and in proportion out to the maximum width. What do I need to do ? THANKS ! ! !

More awkward than hard as Draw like most programmes use letter sizes that include ascenders and decenders, unlike sign programmes which tend to use cap height for sizing. Workround. Type an H as artistic text and size to height desired - note point size. Make paragraph box text length required, set to point size and type. This can then be exported as eps and put into cutting utility for cutting. In Corel 11 (I think) and 12 paragraph text can be converted to curves if required.
