Corel 8. w2k and W98.
After one desktop refuses to open address book at all, hanging at the flash screen (see previous post, and I am still desperate. It's definitely not a mapi problem) I copied the database to my laptop and went to open it there.
I wasn't surprised when it opened empty the first time, sinc sometimes rebooting will bring enough memory up to read the addresses. On the reboot, however, I realize that all of my books are intact except the main list,"frequent contacts", which is empty. This held some 500 or so addresses, many of which are important. I have backups from some time back, but the current ones are what I need.
How could the entire content of one folder disappear, leaving the rest? Is there a way to ascertain whether the folder is really gone or just somehow corrupted? Is there a repair tool?
WHat could be the connection between the failure of WP address book to open (freezes) and the loss of this one folder? I'm starting to get a little paranoid about this.
Note: Got Norton, Got Zone Alarm, office is not accessible to outsiders except cleaning staff, who don't do Corel.
