COREL 12 and Corel X3 Problems

I still use COREL 12 as it suits my daily needs but occasionally have to use the power of X3 to import files. Randomly if I have a Corel Draw 12 file open on the desktop, Corel X3 somehow changes it so when I go to open there is nothing in the file at all. All my work has disappeared.

Help please
