I just took my core exam today, as I read in other threads...I had no I/O addresses, no IRQ's , crummy representations of Motherboards, and most of the questions were troubleshooting/networking. The whole thing including signing in, getting the test started, and taking the survey afterwards took less than 15 minutes, for the two weeks worth of exam prep..I guess the single biggest help for me passing it was the advice not to read just one guide, I read Mike Myers Passport A+ Certification Guide, and the A+ for Dummies Guide, and felt well prepared....OS as soon as I can possibly take it..

I just took my OS and core yesterday... pass one failed one...Have to take the OS again, which is good I quess because I was more worried about the core. I paid $1500 for a class and it really wasn't worth it. The taught you enough to pass the tests, but not really fix computers. Oh well lesson learned...will just study books and and take tests instead of a classroom environment.
What really anoyed me about the whole A+ test is that it is so behind the times.....For a test that is supposed to be tell employers that you are qualified to work on computers it is really out of date. They say a computer ages 5 years for every one year because of how fast the technology groes and expands. if that is the case why is the test mostly about 9x and dos questions. I have a fairly good understanding of both, but most businesses use nt, 2000 and XP. Really who cares about io.sys and command .com... 98 is over 6 years old(30 in computer life)I have never had to deal while irqs, dma or any of that old crap. I work in XP and 2000, thats what todays techs should know...don't you think?

Sorry just venting :)

A+ 2003 Objectives have been posted on the CompTIA web site. The revised exam is ready to rollout this fall.

In my job I still support some DOS machines. Our F100 corporate desktop is still Win95 (XP rollout scheduled for later this year). It's a big world out there. Technology covers the spectrum, in terms of support.

I get real tickled at techs who don't know DOS.

Send an email to A+ebooks@Tcat.net. An autoresponder will reply with a link to download Tcat's excellent Study guides. The book for OS is outstanding. Checkem' out.
