I've just migrated an NW 6.5 SP3 server to new hardware (Dell 1950)where the CPU is an Intel Core 2 Duo.
After the migration the new server is running NW 6.5 SP5.
This server runs Groupwise 6.5.6 and GW Webaccess.

Everything seems to work fine but I wonder if there are any considerations regarding this CPU type.

(I think there was something a few years ago regarding Hyperthreading CPU's and NetWare.)

Typically, if I have a server that has hyperthreading capability, I always turn this off in the systems BIOS.

All you need in this life is ignorance and confidence; then success is sure.

I actually am sitting in front of a Dell 1950 right now. The Processor doesn't have hyperthreading - there is no where in the bios for it. However, it does show up as 4 processors. I don't believe this is a problem because it ISN"T using hyperthreading, that's just how these new processors work.

There is one thing to note.. You're probably using MPS14.PSM in the C:\NWSERVER\STARTUP.NCF for your Platform support. With this particular processor, you don't get all of your ACPI functions..

Go to support.novell.com and search for PSM7.EXE. It has updated ACPI modules that address this issue. Run ACPIDRV.PSM instead of MPS14.PSM. Note that there is a cosmetic issue in these modules that make the processor display as a PIII, but its only cosmetic. That specific issue is fixed in SP6 if you want to try that.
