I have a customer who in insisting on getting the source code for a program I have built for him. I use code purchased from third parties as well as code from other venders. What legal documentation can I give him to prevent having to give him the code?. email me at csvestec@yahoo.com

I don't have the link on hand but search the Inet for "copyright" and focus on the links ending in ".gov". The U.S. copyright office has posted the entire contents of the copyright laws, acts and amendments on the internet. The laws of other countries can be uncovered with the appropriate search.
Since you probably used previously copyrighted material in your program you are probably forbidden, by U.S. law, from transferring that material. Exceptions would arise when you or your customer reached an agreement with or otherwise fulfilled the requirements of the copyright owner.

In any case, if you are using copyrighted material without the permission of the owner, you may not transfer it to another party.

You should check the vendors' restrictions to see if you are allowed to transfer the material without compensation or permission.
Oh, by the way, unless you have signed an agreement with your customer giving them ownership of your personal contribution to the program, they don't have a legal straw to stand on.
If they harass you, call a lawyer.
