i have a 50-user server that has run out of licenses and i also have the disks for a server that i don't use any more that is 250 licenses. The 50 user server is fully patched and y2k compliant. What is the best way for me to use the old servers 250 licenses? If I copy the server.exe from the SYSTEM-1 disk it won't be fully patched snd I also need to take care that the application on the 50-user server still runs and its using Btrieve.

any suggestions?

just do the copy of server.exe, it should not be a problem. It's loader that makes the difference, since the server license was held in server.exe, then altering the executable could foul up licensing.

be sure to backup the old server.exe before you go forward.

If you just want to be sure, just reapply patches.

The last reply is incorrect. You will need to patch the server.exe from the license disk.
Do the following,
Take the server down
Rename the server.exe to server.50 (so you can rvert back if necessary)
Copy the server.exe from the license disk
type the following c:\server.312\lswap c:\server.312\loader.exe c:\server.312\server.exe
adjust the path as necessary. This will patch the server.exe

Are you able/willing to sell me your 50 user licence? See my recent thread regarding increasing users on my 3.2 system.

Mike,

Sorry but I need to reuse it 'cos as I'm sure you know, these licences are very difficult to get hold of.
