Hi everyone ~

I remember reading this a while back, but can't seem to find the thread again.

A user sends an important email. She copies the email from her sent items to another folder. When she deletes items out her sent items folder, the copied version (in the other folder) also is deleted.

Where/What setting do I change to make it where that copied version isn't also deleted?

** As a temp fix, I'm just having the user BC herself, and drop/drop that version into the other folder

Thanks in advance!

The Sent Items folder is a search folder. It will search through all of the folders (mailbox + cabinet) and display them all. I advise people not to use this folder, instead to view sent mails change the display to Sent Items.
For example, to move a sent email to a folder first change the display of the mailbox to Sent Items then move the mail into the folder of your choice. To view the item you'll need to change the display of this folder to Sent Items. Note that if you still use the Sent Items search folder the mail will still appear in there and if deleted from there it will be deleted from the folder you moved it to.

michigan,
Goto sent Items folder, properties, Find tab. On the right side folder tree, expand the user mailbox, deselect the folders for sent items to look in, like Cabinet; work in progress; anywhere a sent file might be moved to. Then when deleted out of the Sent Items folder it will not look in any of those folders and delete it there as well.
I hope that makes sense.

Cheers,

Mark ;-)

Thanks guys.

Mark - that's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks again!

You're welcome, glad I could help.

Or the way I advise our customers.
Create a Folder called Sent Items.
Copy all the mails in the Sent Items query to the Sent Items folder. Then delete the sent items query. Then create a rule that copies any mail that is marked as sent to the sent items folder.

This means that if a user moves a mail from the sent items folder to another folder it will not show up in the original place.

Think I may not have explained that too well. If u can't decipher this then give me a shout and I'll try again.

I tried yvfwc's recommendation and discovered when I drag and drop an item from my sent mail folder into a cabinet folder, it is no longer displayed in the sent mail folder (this is not necessarily a bad thing). I can still check the properties of the message in the cabinet folder to see the status of the message.

Is this the way it typically works? If so then there is no need to delete the item from the sent folder as it is no longer there.

That is correct, it acts like any other mail item when moved to another location.

Cheers,

Mark ;-)
