Copying mdw file from c: drive through vpn to network drive

I need to make security and other changes to my MS Access 2003 database while working remotely. For some reason, I thought the mdw file that resides on my C: drive was the one needed, but no, it doesn't seem to work while I am on the O: drive. I've tried to copy the correct system file to the network, but can't seem to do it so that the db recognizes it. Any suggestions?
