At my office I'm trying to setup 2 new terminal servers to replace an old one.

For some reason the old one has a policy to use local profiles only. I want to enable roaming profiles so my users can switch between the 2 new terminal servers. But I want them still to use their current profile on the new servers.

Each user has a profile directory on servers which I cannot access. So I've made their TS profiles point to the same path. (They've never used the profile directory share but they do have rights to it.)

So my idea was to copy each user profile from old server C drive to C:\Documents and Settings on new server 1, so when they login it will load that profile and when they log out it will save the profile up to the profile share on the servers i cannot access. Then when they logon to new server 2 it should copy down the profile also.

But when i copied 1 profile over and gave the user full rights to the directory, the user logged in and it created them a new profle - username.domainname instead of using the one i copied over.

Is there a way to use the profile i copied over??

That is how terminal servers will behave if you try to copy a profile to the C drive of the terminal server. If you are using roaming profiles, it will try to load the profile and add domainname as the extension. You can try copying their current profile instead to the server where roaming profiles are kept. Although, I believe you said you have no access to those servers. You're going to have to find a way to access the server with the roaming profile. Rename the existing profile and try copying the profile that you wish to use as the active profile.

Thanks for the help

It's hard to explain.... but I can't access their profile paths becuase the servers are owned by another company who have very strict IT policies. The reason we are using the terminal server is becuase I've loaded the other companies software and made it like one of thier pc images so my users can access files and alternate email on their network. At the moment my users have a profile path but have never saved a profile to that location because they've been using local policies so there will be nothing on the other companies servers.

I'll give that profwiz a try and let you know how it turns out!

you can also copy a profile, and change its attributes from the server...
right-click my computer, advanced tab, then user profiles.
select the local profile, hit copy, and copy it to a network share, name it what you want and assign the user that can access it. You can also set it to a roaming profile, and then just verify/enter the profile path in the users account info in AD Users & Computers...
