Our current production database is on SQL Server 2000, I have MSDE (Personal Edition) on a laptop. I need to copy this database onto the laptop for testing and development. Periodically (possibly once per week) I will need to update the database on the laptop to ensure I'm working with the latest data. There will be no need to transfer any data back to the server.

Whats the best way to do this?

I agree with Fluteplr. Backup up the development database. This should already occur as part of regular maintenence. Then restore the backup to the database on the laptop.

I recommend reading the articles at the following links which provide solutions for problems that can occur when copying databases to another computer.
