How would I go about
1) Opening a .txt file
2) Selecting all of the text
3) Copying the text
4) Pasting it back into an Excel file

I have been stuck on this all day. Can anyone help?

Forget that..........

goto menu

Data>Get External data>new database query...

then from the databases tab, choose text files*

then follow the wizard from there to point to your text file.

Once your data is returned. you can right click any where in the upper data area to set propeties such as refresh on open, (very helpfull if your text changes from day to day) and fill down formulas (as data grows or shrinks).

Or, depending on how the text file is structured, just OPEN the text file into Excel, and process it right there. (Data - text to columns is a useful tool after reading the text file).
