I tried to copy an attribute called DEAL into the same folder. Basically with the <CTRL> key down I dragged teh object into the same folder so that it created 'COPY OF DEAL'. I then renamed 'DEAL' to Deal_Test and 'COPY OF DEAL' to 'Deal'. Now when I try to delete Deal_Test which was the OLD one, it creates problems with the reports I have created. How do I resolve it? The reports now have DEAL_TEST on them instead of DEAL. I replaced it with the new one again on the reports and they wont run properly.

PLEASE HELP!!

Thanks a million

You can't just rename objects and have them disappear from reports. What I would do is just change the original deal metric to define it the way you want, otherwise you will have to go into each report and remove it manually. One other option I think you could do is to use the delete dependencies option when deleting an object. I don't remember if that will just remove the attribute from all of the reports or delete the reports that have the attribute on them. Most likely it will remove the attribute from the report. But if you are trying to replace the attribute with another I would still go with the first option which is to reconfigure the attribute.

If you make a duplicate of the attribute, rename the original as DEAL_TEST and new as DEAL, the report will use the DEAL_TEST attribute. Reason is, the DEAL_TEST is just a new name for an object (with a fixed ID).
If you want to make use of the new attribute, you will have to manually remove the DEAL_TEST from the report and replace it with DEAL.
Also make sure that the new DEAL attribute has all the parent-child relationships. While duplicating these are lost.

Thanks.
