is it possible to copy and paste a grouped layer from one Photoshop document to another without flattening it?

Easily : select the layers you want and drag them over the other image

Does this work for you?

Select the group you want to copy from

Right mouse click the layers palette and select "duplicate group".

Change the destination to your copy to document, press "ok".

It's really easy, actually.

Having both documents side by side (or the target one behind the original, but enough of the background showing that you can see it), link all of the layers together that you want to have in the new image. Using your standard move tool left click and drag the entire group of linked layers from the originating image to the target image's background. This will create a copy in the second image. :)

You could, as well, create a layer group, put all of the layers into the group and click and drag the group from the original image to the new image. This would do the same thing as the linking portion of the previous direction. :)

Take care.
