I am in the process of transferring Access databases from XP to Vista both running Access 2003. Some databases transfer satisfactorily and work OK but some will not run in Vista, giving a message that the database is read only although there is no problem with them in XP. Anyone else had this problem, and if so found a cure?

Any help appreciated.

Hi

Perhaps a silly thought, but...

are you transfering some of the databases via a CD?, if yes, could it be that when you copy the mdb file to your hard disk, the read only bit is being left set?, in which case unsetting it via the properties form for the file should do the trick.

Thanks, KenReay. No, I'm not transferring via CD and the Read Only box in Properties is not ticked. I have, however, found that the offending d/bs were in the C: directory whereas the others are in separate folders. Creating folders and moving the offenders into them has cured the problem, but without exsplaining it!
