hi.

I need to set up another pix 501, is there any way I can take the config of my existing unit and transfer it to my other unit?

Thanks.

Use a simple tftp server to save and later load it on another pix

Besides TFTP, here's a quick and dirty way:

1) On your configured PIX, type in the following:
"pager 500" (sets page length to 500 lines for the next step. Set is longer if you need to. the goal is when you do the next command, the PIX shouldn't ask you to hit a key to ge tthe next page).

2) Now, do a "write t". When the PIX is finished displaying your config, highlight all of it and do a Copy.

3) Paste it into a Wordpad document, or just keep it in the clipboard.

4) On your new PIX, go into config mode and do a Paste. The commands will execute line-by-line on the new PIX.

It's best to do this from the console port in case IP addresses, etc. are different!

HI.

With both the advices above, it is best to clear the existing config (of new device) first:

write erase
reload

This must be done from serial console because then the pix will have no connectivity.
The idea is to avoid conflicts because the new config (either from TFTP or Copy&Paste is merged with the existing one as mentioned by "tbissett").

A 3rd option is to simply reconfigure the pix using the "old" device config on paper as a reference - a pix 501 configuration is typically quite simple.
