I have a DTS package that replicates all my data every evening onto a backup machine.

So now I have a backup machine with day old data on it so if anything happens to my live machine I can just promote the backup server and get everything running again instantly.

The only problem I have is that the user Login passwords are not coming over with the user logins themselves?

How do I get the server's to replicate the passwords between each other?

Thanks,
Gavin

How are you transferring the logins? Although I haven't used it yet, I would think the Transfer Logins task would also get the passwords. If not, what's the use.

Every time I lose my mind, I wonder
if it's really worth finding.

If you are not using intergrated security then logins and passwords are stored with the master database thus you have to have your master database pushed over as well.

At the moment I am just using the "Transfer SQL Server Objects" option in the DTS creator.

I am trying to keep it as simple as possible at the moment.

What I have done now is to setup a transfer to transfer everything from my table to my backup server, and then on completion to transfer everything from my main Master database to my backup database.

Will this work and is it an acceptable way to do this or am I lining myself up for some major problems?

Thanks,
Gavin

You could probably use the reference in the FAQ: How do you keep SQL logins and pw's synched between servers?
