Hi,

I'm using w2003 server R2 as terminal server. I'm wondering if it is possible to copy a TS profile to another new profile.

What do I mean ?

Assume that domain user XXX logs on to this terminal server. In this profile a default printer is selected and other user preference settings are done (such as classic windows menu). This profile is stored localy on the server C: drive under documents & settings\XXX

Can I copy user XXX profile to for example YYY so when user YYY will log on for the first time, the majority of settings will be already as necessary (as in XXX) ???

I have tried to copy this folder XXX to YYY in the explorer but when user YYY logs on, the system makes another folder in order to store the profile, like YYY.DOMAINNAME

appreciate your time for reading this.

I think what you are trying to do is better accomplished by using scripts and Group Policy. You can have a group policy that defines using the Classic Start Menu, redirecting My Docs, etc. Then maybe a logon or VB script that maps printers and sets the default. I don't think you can just copy over the whole profile from user A to user B.

You can let the user log on the first time, let the system create the Documents and Settings folder, then copy over simple things like the desktop folder and favorites.

I would have to agree with pgaliardo, Group Policy is definitely the way to go when dealing with TS or Citrix environments.

However, what you want to do can be accomplished by modifying the Default User. When a user logs into a computer for the first time, the Default User account settings are applied to that user.

In your case you can use this link to help you accomplish this:

For people with W2000, try this link:

I think this would work for the situation right now, but you might want to look into Group Policy for the future.
