Copy Production to Development

Hi, I am new in Cognos and may be my question is very simple for experienced developers. I'm updating some Account items in Define Items in the Production instance. Once I have completed these changes, do you know how to copy the Production instance into the Development instance? Should I just copy files or move it different way?
