I have to send a copy of an oracle 8.1 to my vendor - not sure which files to send or how to do - can anyone help??

The vendor should specify to you (or you should ask the vendor to clarify to you) the type of database copy s/he wants:

1) "exp" exported dumpfiles of the subject schema (or its tables), or
2) a complete database image of all database files, which includes:
a) database data files (tablespace files)
b) on-line redo log files
c) control files,

...plus a helpful file that is not part of the database, your pfile parameter file named "init<SID>.ora".

If the vendor simply wants your application data, then they probably want just "1)". Option "2)" is a relative pain in some part of the body. But the vendor's specific interest will determine which flavour of database files s/he wants.

Let us know,
