Copy NTFS data to linux(NTFS to ext2 or ext3 migration)

Hi,
I am using a windows2000 server as a development build machine. The machine is as such very old.

We bought a replacment machine for that. Our people want to run redhat linux on that and hence i have to move the data form the old windows NTFS to the new ext2/ext3 filesystem.

I was thinking direct attach the 'source and destination machines', running samba on linux and copy the data from windows to linux. I am worried the NTFS data might be corrupted when we migrate from windows to linux. Most of our data are code/source in ascii format. Any thoughts on this. Thanks.

What kind of filesystems you have on the different drives
shouldnt influence copying between the drives.
Their just a way for the drive to structure the data on the drive.
The filesystem (or its caracteristics) dont follow along
with the file when you copy it.
So depending on the amount of data you should be able to copy
in any way you see fit.
Eighter burning the to CD/DVD, copy over LAN, or even by
fysicaly mounting the NTFS-drive in the RH-server and copy
directly between drives.
Linux can read NTFS trough the ntfs-3g-module.

Answer: source windows2000 has NTFS raid about 2TB.

So depending on the amount of data you should be able to copy in any way you see fit.

Answer : I am worried abot the bugs that this kind of software, since this the source machine is a production machine.

If this is an production machine with important data,
then I presume you have a resent full backup off all data.
Can you use this backup to migrate the data to the new system?

yes, I do have a full/incremental backup using legato. I can go that way also.

i came across ext2IFS, captive, samba etc. I thought i can use one of these or connect a USB drive and copy and migrate to the new linux server, just in case backup is not current.
