Ii have a colleague who is able to copy link from a large xref'd drawing in paper and modelspace and paste into illustrator 9. We both are running v14 and ai9 on win2k. we seem to have the exact same istallations and preferences set. he is able to do this without failure; getting a exact, editable replica with correct line weights and all. it works beautiful. I've seen him do it hundreds of times and it frustrates me that i can't.

Has anyone else been able to pull this off or had similar problems?

The drawing IS in my clipboard but will not paste into AI. I have even copied his clipboard file into mine and tried to paste, but no luck. I have literally tried everything as far as i know. I have a feeling this is an AI problem but adobe has been unresponsive and clueless. Thanks for your help

what about dxfing out and selecting your objects and then opening it in Illustrator?? Jay~

unfortunately, that doesn't work with an xref model space and the plate in paper space.
