Somewhere I recall reading a tip about a command you can issue in p9 that essentially puts all the data from your last record into your next record..or the one you're now editing...so you don't have to re-type redundant info. Can anyone tell me what that command or key combination is?

Thanks!
Dan

You can use Ctl-D to get the info for the current field from the previous record.

I use a pushbutton for "Next New Record" and it writes the redundant data into variables, then inserts a new records and populates all the redundant fields at once.

To completely duplicate a record, examine the copyToArray and copyFromArray functions.

Actually...I'm not a programmer...so is there a way to do it interactively? I have been doing it via a keyboard macro program..but about once a month..that program quits working..and I have to reinstall...then re-build the macro.

There is no way to do it interactively of which I am aware.

However, you can set default field values at the table level. For example, if you want the State field to always have TX in it every time a new record is created, then you can restructure the table and place that value in the Default Value blank. All fields (except memo fields, I think) can be told to use default values. To do this you can choose Tools->Restructure from the menu or right click the table and choose Restructure. Fill in the Default value for each field and save. If you want a date field to default to the current date, simply put the word TODAY in the default blank. You will notice that there are a number of other values you can set as well, including minimum and maximum values.

Super! I think the default values thing will save us a lot of work. Only question I have that remains, is...each time we open the record...will the data we've already entered be changed back to the default vaules when we edit the record? I assume not.

Thanks,

Dan

No - the defaults only appear on brand new records.
