Hi Everyone,

I am trying to find out if there is a way of easily copying joins from one catalog to another (Impromptu v7).

Falling short of that does anyone have any comments on feasibility of writing a macro ? Since you don't appear to be able to have two catalogs open simultaneously I am thinking of writing join info to a file. I would then read this back in with new catalog open and setup joins.

Any advice pointers greatly appreciated.

I am not aware of any way you could copy a join information from one catalog to another. I am certain it is not possible.

However, you could consider creating another copy of the catalog and modifying it, thereby creating you other catalog.

You can have only one catalog open in an instance of Impromptu. However, you can open another instance of Impromptu with a different catalog.

Hope this helps.

Use nagrajm's suggestion, you can have 2 instances of Impromptu open with a different catalog open in each. You can view the joins in one of the Imp instances while creating copy joins in the other instance. Or, copy the catalog to another folder, rename it, and use it to be your new catalog.[bugeyed] CP

Thanks for the hints, but I'm pretty new to this macro lark and it's making my brain swell. Are we saying with two instances of Impromptu running a macro could enquire on one catalog and create links based on the results ?

Anyway I have mustered up a 200 line sledgehammer along the lines of my original idea that does the trick with a bit of manual intervention.

Are there any equivalents to split and replace, which do not appear to be valid, available in CognosScript ?
