Copy heavy pages - always seem to look a bit scruffy.

I design a listings magazine and whilst the features and advert pages look fine, the actual listings pages always seem to look a bit scruffy.

Are there any swift and brutal tips to go some way to sorting this out?

Any hints, websites etc would go greatly appreciated.
