I changed the Copy Serialization from SHRSTATIC to SHRDYNAMIC but still get the same amount of "objects failed". Do I have to change the Copy Mode to ABSOLUTE and the Copy Serialization to DYNAMIC to force a full backup which is at best "fuzzy"?
Wow three questions in one - is there a better way to do a full backup using Tivoli?

Dave,

What kind of file is this that we are trying to backup?
If this file is for an application like Windows.
The operating system will have a lock on the file. Changing the serialization from SHRSTatic to SHRDYnamic, one would think this would work. Due to the lock on the file, TSM will still not be able to backup eventhough TSM is set to SHRDYnamic.

If you want the TSM Client to backup the files regardless if the file have change or not. Just change the copy mode from 'modified' to 'absolute.' Keep in mind if we have 20 clients that are associated with this copygroup, all 20 will perform a full backup.

Another way to perform a full backup other than updating the copy mode is to perform the backup via the GUI or web client. Make sure you select 'always' because 'incremental is the default.

Some food for thought.
Rather than performing a full backup.
Why not create a backupset aka instant archive?
A backup set will take all the active file and copy it to the tape.

Good Luck,
Sias
