hey everyone - during my windows explorer search of files for a keyword, some of the filenames came up with the same names as another file in a different folder.

when i try to copy the files to a newly created directory for archiving (CD), it said that a file with the same name exists and asks if i want to overwrite it.

my question is: how can i copy the search results files into new directory, and have the folder path recreated in the new directory so files will not be overwritten?

there must be some windows explorer extension or something to expedite my needs, rather than manually create a new folder for a file with a duplicate name.

isn't there???

A by design issue with Windows. To get them all in one folder (or on a CD) it will be necessary to Rename each identical file to some non-identical name.

It is a bit odd that you can have the duplicate names listed in the Search window but not in any folder. You can even Rename all the selected files in the Search window in one go by using the Ctrl key to highlight them and using Rename to rename the whole lot in one go. Of course this renames the original file in its original location, which will probably break Windows.
